Included in Eddie's legislative agenda are bills that address regional transportation, economic development and job creation, housing, education, hunger and nutrition, health and human services, environmental issues and the promotion of renewable and sustainable energy as part of a statewide approach to improving environmental quality and creating economic opportunities for Texas.
Eddie was born on July 1, 1971 in McAllen, Texas. Eddie is married to wife Christine Garrison with children Jack and Sophie.
He studied two years at St. Mary's University in San Antonio before earning is B.A. in government from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995. He earned his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in Austin in 2008.

Eddie serves on the boards of the Economic Growth Business Incubator, the Anti-Defamation League-Austin Chapter, and the Alliance for Public Transportation, whose mission is to promote regional public transportation in Central Texas. He is President Emeritus of Austin Pets Alive!, which provides resources for education and programs to stop to the killing of companion animals in Austin. He also serves on the boards of the Zachary Scott Theatre and Habitat for Humanity.
Eddie was first elected to the State Legislature in 2002. He was re-elected in November 2012 to his sixth term as the Representative from District 51, serving East Austin and Southeast Travis County. Currently Eddie serves on the House Committees on Business & Industry and Economic & Small Business Development. He is founder and Chair of the Farm to Table Caucus in the Texas House of Representatives, is Vice-Chair of the Mexican American Legislative Caucus, and an active member of the House Democratic Caucus and the Legislative Study Group.
