King moved to West Texas in 1979 after growing up in Houston. King is married to Dr. Austin King, MD and has three grown children and three grandchildren.

Upon graduation she returned to Houston and worked with renowned cardiac surgeon Denton Cooley, MD. King served as Co-Director of Surgery and Head of Education for the operating rooms at St. Luke´s Episcopal, Texas Children´s Hospital, and the Texas Heart Institute. Currently, Rep. King is co-owner of Elm Place Ambulatory Surgical Center in Abilene where she also the Director of Nursing.

Before her election to the Texas House of Representatives, Rep. King served on the Abilene Independent School District Board of Trustees from 1998 to 2006, including two years as President of the Board.

Susan Lewis King is a fourth-term Member of the Texas House of Representatives serving District 71, comprised of Taylor, Nolan and Jones Counties in West Central Texas.

Rep. King serves on the House Appropriations Committee, and sits on the Appropriations Subcommittee for Articles I, IV, and V for General Government, the Judiciary, Criminal Justice and Public Safety. Previously she served on the Appropriations Article II Subcommittee for Health & Human Services and Appropriations Article III Subcommittee on Education. She is also a member of the House Public Health Committee and House Administration Committee. Previous committee assignments have included Vice Chair of the House Human Services Committee and Committee on Rules and Resolutions.
