Bryan Hughes represents District Five in the Texas House of Representatives. He is a member of the Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence.

In 2002 in his first run for office, he was elected with 52% of the vote. In 2004 he was reelected by a 62% margin and in 2006 with 82%. He was unopposed for reelection in 2008 & 2010. In 2012 Bryan faced his first primary opponent and the voters in the newly-drawn district honored him with a 77% margin of victory.
